Johnny was sick as a dog. Shivering yet feverish (even for him), sneezing, coughing... it was probably clear that he didn't have what other people did. He just had the flu.

So whatever was happening with town meetings and fighting and what have you, Johnny would be sitting out. And maybe puking out. Gross.
